Class of '97 Reuion Date: August 4th - Input on Location Ideas

Mark your calendars, the date of the reunion will be August 4, 2007. It would be great if we could plan to come in to town Friday the 3rd and stay through Sunday August 5th at least.

Now that we have the weekend nailed down, let's move on to location ideas. I don't have any ideas thus far for where to hold this event. We really need those of you Huntington residents to help out with finding the right place. Of course we do have the option of holding it at the school, but some have expressed a desire to host it elsewhere.

I think it would be great to get a decent place for cheep or free, but that may be unrealistic. What are your thoughts about locations for the main event? I would imagine this would be a dinner event Saturday evening.

I'm all for not havin' at at Grace too. I think there's a few others that agree as well.

Anyway - I'll call around this weekend or stop by some places and see what their rates are, etc and get back to you!

Have a great weekend, everyone!!

I agree that a venue other than Grace would be best. We may be able to find a restaurant that has a large side room that we could utilize. I doubt that our group will be extremely large so we can probably find something of that nature that would accomodate all of us. Unfortunately, since I haven't been to Huntington in the last 5 years, I don't even know what venues are there to try.

amanda jordan(lemaster)wants to nominate The MU Cafe guys.

Cindy said...

Alrighty- lots of options out there. Tascali's in Barboursville has 3 dining rooms. MU Cafe does have party rooms too. Ummm...the Omelette Stop. JK!
My church is an option. We could use our youth room for free; we don't have a kitchen yet, but we can work things out with food. We have a sound system there too and big screens. If we did it there Samantha, what would you parents think about catering with pasta or something?
What do ya'll think?

Kate, Kate...Huntington has grown in the last 5 years. Come experience the big life with us!

Tamahawk said...

Yeah! We had a movie made about us! LOL.

Tamahawk said...

Yummy... Tascali's! I haven't had that in years...

The school has changed a lot since we graduated. I think we should go and see the new gym and what else they've changed... but that's just my thoughts... scott

Tamahawk said...

Hey Scott!!!!

Temple TImes said...

I nominate Boston Beanery (old Heritage Station). They have private Banquet rooms and are very nice and private. They are upstairs above the restaurant and have some nostalgia about them since it’s the old part of the office of the train station. They have a great food selection.
I had used one years ago and was very pleased. I booked a room for a Christmas dinner there this year and we were very happy with it.

Good idea, Sammy!!!! I like that idea the best so far...

Temple TImes said...

Ohh you may have hit a good note with that. I always forget the Boston Beanery but I love their food. I think it's a great idea!

Hey guys,

When you read this, please pray for my stepdad Mack. He had to go to the emergency room because he was really pale, lightheaded, and started to stagger around. They don't know what the cause is yet, but they are thinking it may be a clogged artery in the neck. They are doing many tests on him right now. Please help me pray for him and for his healing...

Thanks in advance,
Tamara

Josiah said...

We'll be praying Tamara.

Would someone volunteer to call Boston Beanery or stop in to get a tentative quote on what it would cost per person? Thanks in advance.

Temple TImes said...

we'll be prayin' tam :)

Cindy said...

Hi, Josiah!
I'll call the Beanery and see what they say. Are we lookng at August 4th for the main dinner? Tam, I'll put your stepdad on our prayer list.
Hi, Scott! What's up?

Josiah said...

Thanks Cindy! Yeah.. I think that the main dinner would be Saturday night - August 4th.

Tamahawk said...

Thanks for praying for my stepdad Mack... The doctor's are still running tests, but they think now that it may be this virus that has been going around in combination with an inner ear infection. So that is good news. Mom said he is feeling a lot better and looks a lot better, too. Thanks again!!!

Tamara, Glad to hear Mack is feeling better.

As for the room at Beanery, in the middle of December it was $40.00 for the room rental. We had the room set for 20. We opted to just pay for the room and everyone else do separate checks. That might work for us too.

Cindy said...

Thanks for the info, Sam. I'll call today and see what they say. Josiah do you have an estimated # for me? You've been talking to more people than me. I know we've got to include spouses and kids and significant others, etc.

thanks!

Josiah said...

I don't really know Cindy. I think it could be anywhere from 30-50.

Katie said...

Wouldn't the main event be an adult event? Kids could possibly come to some of the other weekend things.... Just a thought.

Cindy said...

Okay, everyone. Here's the info from the Boston Beanery.
They have a banquet room to seat 52 upstairs. If we rent it on a "peak time" (weekends from 6 p.m. on) it will cost $125 + tax. Before 6 p.m., they will not charge us anything.
They prefer to use a select menu, picking about 5 things from the menu which can be seen at www.bostonbeanery.com.
They can also do an appetizer buffet for about $14.00/person.
18% gratuity is included in the bill.

What do ya'll think?
Let me know. I have the general manager's name and info and I'll be glad to contact her again.

Love ya!

Josiah said...

Kate... I think that if the main event is a dinner at the Beanery, yeah, it's probably best to make an adult event.

Cindy... Thanks for checking in on the prices at the Boston Beanery.

Now we have at least one clear option nailed down. Let's put a few options on the table and compare. Maybe narrow it down to three options and get some feedback from those who want to put their two cents in.

At least one other option has been offered: Doing it at Grace or using your church building (Cindy) and catering it out. With that option I guess we could prepare some of the food ourselves if we wanted to.

Cindy said...

Okay...more info!
Marshall Cafe's main party room holds up to 90 people. Their smaller room about 40.
With 35-40 people, they require a limited menu. With 2 items on the menu, it would be $20/person. With 3, it would be $24.
With over 40 people, they do a buffet. 18% gratuity
More info on party stuff at www.marshallhalloffamecafe.com

Next, Tascali's in Barboursville (some of you may not know it has moved and is brand new) has a back dining room that will hold about 60-65 people. There's a $50 deposit that will be returned on the day of the dinner. A select menu is not necessary, but recommended. Their menu is really reasonable (between $9- $16 on average). 18% gratuity

I'm also going to check Rocco's...I'm feeling Italian today. :)

Love you all!

Cindy said...

Rocco's charges $200 for their banquet room. They will serve a "family style meal" with 2 or 3 appetizers and then 2-3 entrees. Then everyone can serve themselves from those.
It looks like about AT LEAST $25/person there.

amanda and i like all the restaurant options guys. thats our two cents :)
sam

Tamahawk said...

I like all the restauranty options, too... I think it'd be nice to have it at a place where the food is prepared for me (plus no mess to clean up), and I think Saturday's event could be more of a formal event (maybe like dress-casual). The rest of our activities that weekend maybe we could do like a pot luck or something. Ideas anyone???

Temple TImes said...

I agree with Tam. I like the thought of having the main dinner at some place, where the food is prepared and having it be possibly dress casual.

There's my 2 cents :) I'm off to go work out. Have a great day guys!!

Katie said...

I definitely agree with Tam's ideas! Only thing about a potluck is that would be a bit tricky for those of us coming in from out of town. I guess I could bring a bag of chips... LOL!

Cindy said...

We want Doritos!

Katie said...

If it's Doritos you want, Doritos you shall get. I aim to please, baby!

Temple TImes said...

Make sure it's the extra cheesy kind, Kate!

We need to talk via google again! :)

Temple TImes said...

Tamahawk said...

That is really terrible. I'll be really be praying for your fam, Cherry...

Cindy said...

Cherry, I'm definitely praying for the baby. Sorry, I didn't know til today. How is he?

What's the verdict guys? To me, Marshall Cafe sounds great because there's no fee to use the room. :)
